06/07/2011 – Clean Eats

8 Jun

It’s only Tuesday!? Thankfully it’s a short week at work. I need to get my SH*T together though, because I have a lot to do at home before baby comes, and I have a lot to do at work before I leave. SIGH! This is what I get for not planning ahead and worrying. LOL.

I started the day off with a Tall Dry Cappuccino with Heavy Cream. I drank half of it, and threw it away. Too much cream and not enough coffee. For breakfast, I had the last of my Tandoori Chicken Leg with some cabbage. Very little cabbage.

I munched on few strawberries with coco cream for a snack. Lunch rolled around, and I had my porktastic meatloaf with half a sweet potato. It was yummier the day after… maybe because it wasn’t as moist.

To get me through the afternoon, I had some macadamia nuts. When I got home, Lil’ Munchkin’ and I munched on the last of the watermelon.

I put out a Grass Fed Top Sirloin steak for us to marinate. I forgot to take a pic of my steak, but it was basically an 8oz steak with asparagus and bell peppers. I ate more than half and saved the rest for lunch. Yummy to my tummy. I ended the night with a piece of 85% dark chocolate. That got watermelon kicking my tummy, so I couldn’t really fall asleep until after 10PM. I’m trying to enjoy my last few weeks of being pregnant, but it’s a bit difficult. I guess I’ll enjoy it with more fruit, because after I have this baby, I need to start slimming down and getting my STRENF! back!!!

06/06/2011 – Clean Eats

Yes, I had a day of real pure foods, and it was yummy!

For breakfast, I had 3 hard boiled eggs. It was a tiny breakfast, but I didn’t have any time to prepare veggies. I munched on a few macadamia nuts before lunch.

I ate lunch early, because I was hungry, and scarfed down my Braised Bone-In short-ribs from Friday night.

Yes, it taste like beef candy. Yummy! For lunch dessert, I had some cherries and strawberries.

I got home, and munched on more cherries. I also popped the Porktastic Bacon topped Meatloaf into the oven, and 70 minutes later we had dinner.

Not the best picture, but it smelled yummy. I nuked some frozen broccoli with ghee for our side. Here’s my dinner plate:

The meatloaf was good! Even better with the tomato basil sauce that I got from Whole Foods(ingredients were CLEAN!). Hubby like it too, so thanks again Nom Nom Paleo for another great recipe.

1 day down, 3 more to go….yes, it’s another short week for me. I’m still bummed I lost my ring though. Everytime I think about it, I get sad. :-(

06/06/2011 – Monday’s Workout plus My Lost Ring

7 Jun

Yes, I lost my wedding band at CFPA. I usually hang it with my keys on the board. As I was grabbing my keys to leave, my wedding band was coming off too and I saw it fall down into the crate of notebooks. It could of fallen out of the crate as well. All the guys stayed back to help me look for it, but to no avail(Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!). I’m a little sad, and hopefully we’ll find it.

Anyways, I didn’t want to get up this morning because it was Monday, I was exhausted, and I wanted to just stay in bed with hubby. He was away, and got home late Sunday night because of flight delays. But I told myself I hadn’t worked out since Wednesday, so I had to do something. Plus my days at CFPA will probably be getting scarce as I get down to the final weeks of this pregnancy. So, I jumped into my car and headed to CFPA to work on Thrusters.

Thrusters:73#(5)-83#(5)-93#(3)

I wanted to do the 5/5/3/3/3 rep scheme again because I really just wanted to keep my strength. It was difficult!!! Very difficult! And I ended up not having enough time to finish the last sets. I was taking my time in between sets too, to make sure I had enough rest.

Thankful, our WOD wasn’t as difficult today, because I don’t think I could of handled a “Helen” or anything with running. Plus, I didn’t feel pressure to do it Rx’d, pressure from myself that is.

AMRAP:

  • 10 Ring Push Ups
  • 15 Ab-mat Situps
  • 5 Box Jumps(30″/24″)
  • I did ring push-ups but with knees down. For the box jumps, I used the 20″ box with a 15lb plate. I probably got an extra inch or two. I didn’t push it too hard. Ab-mat situps were starting to bother me, and I just did step ups with the box jumps. I’m a little disappointed that I couldn’t work on technique with the box jumps after seeing the competitors at Norcal Regionals do it.

Result: 6 rounds + 5 ring push ups.

Weekend Recap(06/03-06/5) – My Good Eats for the Weekend & Norcal Regionals

    6 Jun

What a weekend??!?! Exhausting, fun, tiring, and hectic. I spent all day Friday and most of Saturday at the Norcal Regional Crossfit Games. It was fun to hang out and cheer on our girl Maddie from CFPA. She placed 18th overall, and took 1st place in workout #4 in her heat. It was the most inspiring thing to witness, and yes people are going to be stepping up their game after watching all the competitors compete. Thanks to The Lazy Caveman, I got a picture with Miranda Oldroyld. If you don’t know her, look her up…she is BADASS!

I’m not going to recap EVERY single thing that I ate this weekend. I did have some non-Paleo food, which included ice cream Friday and Saturday night, and some white carbs on Saturday. Bad I know, and I ate it while I was by myself. How sad was that!!! I was bored and had nothing to do, and all I thought about was food – definitely a bad situation to put yourself in while trying to eat clean. I also had some heavy cream with coffee Saturday, and tzatiki sauce with my Greek food on Sunday. Sunday, I kept my meals to the Paleo/Primal standards. I tried a new restaurant in Willow Glen called Opa!

We got The Gyro Meat Platter to start:

Then I ordered the Opa! Lettuce Wraps:

It was freakin’ yummy, and I was so full that I barely ate any dinner. I just had few slices of Applegate Organic Genoa Salami with 1/4 of an avocado.

I prepped a “Porktastic Bacon-Topped Meatloaf” by Nom Nom Paleo, for Monday night’s dinner. Let’s hope I did it right, because it was the first time I’ve ever made meatloaf. I also took Lil’ Munchkin’ to the Campbell Farmer’s Market. They moved the vendors around, but it looks like there are more vendors now that Summer as arrived(sort of). Lots of fruits, yummy veggies, and beautiful people strolling around on a Sunday morning.

Anyways, hope everyone’s week starts off great. Hopefully the rain stops and we start to get some more sunshine here in Northern Cali. Oooh ya, I’m hoping to have this baby by the end of the month. But we’ll see. :-) He is definitely moving around in there, and I was afraid that I was going to have this baby while hubby was away. But nope, hubby came back, and baby is still marinating in the oven. Pheeewww!

06/02/2011 – Clean Eats plus a bit of Dairy

    3 Jun

This is going to be a quick recap because I gotta get ready and do some work.

Since I was at home with Lil’ Munchkn’ this morning I made bacon and eggs.

I stopped by Starbucks and had a grande americano with a splash of heavy cream.

I munched on macadamia nuts, and then for lunch I had a piece of salmon with nuked green beans. I also ate 1/4 of an avocado with a handful of cranberries.

When I got home, I put my chicken tandoori legs into the oven for 40 minutes. The plate looks like I only had a thigh, but I actually had 1 leg plus the thigh. I was picking at the other chicken leg right when it came out of the oven, and happen to just eat it all. ;-)

I bought some Greek yogurt to go with it, but only ate a little bit. I’ve been craving this Greek yogurt from Chelokababi, but I haven’t had a chance to go there again. This will have to do. This Greek yogurt thing can become a bad habit, and I don’t want it to get out of control. Looks like I’m going to have to throw the tub away if no one at home eats it.

    06/01/2011 – Clean Eats

    2 Jun

I definitely feel more energized today, and was able to be upbeat at work and actually accomplish something! Here’s what I ate today…

Breakfast was leftovers from the BBQ we had on Monday. I just threw some protein together with a bit of veggies and sweet potatoes. I didn’t eat the sliders.

I snacked on some macadamia nuts, and then went to Specialty’s for lunch. I just ordered a spinach salad with strawberries and goat cheese.

Not a very filling lunch, but I knew I had protein at my desk. About an hour later I opened a can of sardines and scarfed that down. I also had a handful of dried cranberries.

I left out chicken legs to make dinner, but the recipe I decided to make would take 8 hours. So, I decided to pick up Chipotle for dinner.

It was quick and easy, and hubby needed to finish packing before he left for Miami. Have I told you he’s going on a bachelor party? Have I told you he’ll be at Game 2 of the Heat and Maverick series? Have I told you he’ll be walking Ocean Ave. while I take care of Lil’ Munchkin’ at home? Do you sense that I’m a little jealous?! LOL.

Anyways, work week is almost done. I’ve been slacking and I’ll be taking off early on Friday to go watch the regionals. Good times!!

06/01/2011 – Deadlifts plus Shoulders, Shoulders, and more Shoulders

    1 Jun

Its the first of the month!! And I’m re-energized. I felt like dead wood yesterday, but I got a good nights sleep, and got my ass to workout this morning. We worked on Deadlifts, and like I said last week, I stayed with the 5 and 3 rep scheme because I wasn’t going to try to PR anything. I’m at a point in my pregnancy where I should try to maintain the strength that I have and not force a PR.

    Here were my loads:

    Deadlift: 123#(5)-173#(5)-193#(3)-213#(3)-223#(3)

Everything felt good. It was starting to get heavy at 213, but I took my time with each rep and remember to keep everything tight as I lifted the bar. I’ve done 223# before, so I’m glad I can still do it while preggo.

Next up, our super FUN WOD!

    As Many Reps As Possible:

  • 3 minutes Press(75#/55#)
  • 3 min Rest
  • 3 min Push Press
  • 3 min Rest
  • 3 min Push Jerk
  • *5 burpee penalty if you rest the bar on shoulders or ground

If you don’t know the difference between the 3 movements, watch this video.

At first, Tim wrote 95# for Men, and 65# for women. Fitbomb and I were wondering if we could get through it with the weight, and we decided to go for it. Then Tim said he made a mistake. We were happy to lighten the weight up. I knew at 65#, the presses were going to kill my shoulders. With 55#, it was much easier, but still difficult! Here’s my breakdown for each of the movements.

    Press: 22 Total – 12, 5 burpees, 6, 5 burpees, 4, 5 burpees
    Push Press: 33 Total – 20, 5 burpees, 7, 5 burpees, 6
    Push Jerk: 37 Total – 21, 5 burpees, 8, 5 burpees, 8

    Total: 92 reps Rx’d

Notice that I did 3 rounds of burpees for the presses, instead of two for the other rounds. I should of tried to go all out with the presses on the first round when I started. Then get as many as I can but still get out 5 more burpees. Then wait until 20 or 30 seconds left and go balls to the wall with whatever I had left in me until the timer went off.

I did that for the Push Press and Push Jerk, and it worked out well for me, I think. Again though, the Press is the hardest movement out of the three. I didn’t really have a set number that I wanted to hit, but next time I hope it’s over 100. Love this WOD!!!

    05/31/2011 – Clean Eats

    1 Jun

Gosh, back to work and mentally, I am so not there! My body is freakin’ exhausted and I couldn’t concentrate at work. This is the time where I really wish I had a standing desk. Sitting down all day just makes my muscles tighten up more, and all I can think about is lying down on a comfy bed and resting my head.

Luckily, I ate well all day, so at least I know the food isn’t making me feel worse.

For breakfast, I started off with slices of flat iron steak(leftovers from the BBQ), guacamole, and artichokes.

I snacked on macadamia nuts and cherries throughout the morning. Lunchtime came around, and I had grass fed mini sliders with asparagus wrapped with proscuitto and garlic portobello mushrooms. I ate all the sliders and asparagus, but not the mushrooms.

I had a couple pieces of dried mangoes and more macadamia nuts to snack on. When I got home, I quickly hacked my sous vide and dumped Chimichurri Wild Alaskan Salmon, from Trader Joes, into it. Hubby and I put Lil’ Munchkin’ into bed, and then I seared the salmon real quick. Here is a plate that hubby and I shared. I ate half of it.

For dessert, I had the last of my 85% dark chocolate with some watermelon. No more dark chocolate. I’m going to try not to buy anymore for a week. We’ll see what happens.

Hope everyone got back into the swings of things. I was completely tired by the end of the day, but I have to get my energy back up. I have a busy week ahead of me – Hubby will be in Florida starting tomorrow night, and I’ll be busy with Lil’ Munchkin’, work, and the Northern Cali Regional Crossfit Games.
