Whole30 Day 6 & 7

8 Aug

So, all week I’ve been thinking about Saturday because I had two parties to go to, and I didn’t know if I could stay Whole30 compliant at the parties. Well to make my decision easier, lil’ AMRAP was being a little more fussier than normal(considering he’s only 2.5 weeks old), so i decided not to go to the birthday party, and just stick to the family party that was near my house. That left the temptation of cheating out of the question. However, I knew at my family BBQ there really wouldn’t be anything whole30 compliant either besides salad, fruit, and more salad. I decided to take a dry rub recipe out of Everyday Paleo’s cookbook and make myself some burgers to bring over. It was quick and easy!

At the BBQ, I ate my burger with some salad. My aunt made a mango shrimp salad that was smothered in fish sauce. Luckily, she put aside a little portion that didn’t have any sauce in it. I quickly noshed on that as well. :-) . I also munched on lots of fruit while I was there. Sorry no pics of Saturday.

On Sunday, I started the day with some fried eggs. Then we took both kids to the Mountain View farmer’s market. I love this market! They have so much more stuff than the Campbell farmer’s market. I got a great deal at Full of Life Farm. They were selling all their pork roast for 30% off! SCORE! It was worth it to venture out to Mountain View.

Anyways, we ended up having a really late lunch, but I snacked on SeaSnax and watermelon. We finally decided to get in-n-out for lunch, and of course I got the double-meat protein style burger with grilled onions and pickles…hold the sauce. I scarfed that down within 5 minutes.

For dinner, I marinated two pieces of grass-fed rib eye steak with the leftover rub that I had from the burgers on Saturday. We paired the steak with roasted broccoli and stir fry mushrooms and cabbage. I ate about 1/4 of the steak that was pictured. Guess I wasn’t hungry because of the burger.

PHEW! I made it through the weekend…one day at a time!

Whole30 – Day 5(08/05/11)

7 Aug

This is going to be a quick post because I’m doing it late and forgot what I had. I know it was all Whole30 compliant, and I did go out to eat too!

For breakfast, I had 1 fried egg that was left over from lil’ munchkin’s breakfast.

Lunch rolled around, and I quickly scarfed down the leftover Curry Beef Stew that was sitting in the fridge. I probably had some watermelon and mangoes to go along with it.

I had a groupon to Habana Cuba that was expiring soon, so hubby and I decided to be daring and take the kids out to eat. Boy, we never ate so fast in our lives!! I think it took us 45 minutes to sit down, figure out what to order, eat, and then rush out.

I ordered the Lechon de Cuba, which was roasted pork in cuban spices.

Hubby ordered the ropa vieja, which is slow cooked beef with bell peppers and onions in a tomato sauce. I added steamed yuca and steamed veggies to go with our dishes. Rice, plantains, and black beans also came with our order but we didn’t touch it.

We left as soon as one kid started to get fussy. Surprisingly it was the lil’ AMRAP. We thought he would just sleep the entire time, but I guess he was HUNGRY too! I left not satisfied at all! I need more food! LOL. I ended the night with more watermelon.

I know I’m eating a little too much fruit for snacks. Maybe my next challenge will be the 21-Day Sugar Detox. Because everyone here knows I sure need it!

Whole30 – Day 4(08/04/11)

7 Aug

Another day in the books. I didn’t have much of a breakfast, because my mornings are pretty hectic. I fried up 4 eggs for lil’ munchkin’ and I, but I ended up eating maybe 1/3 of it. After I fed lil’ munchkin’, I quickly prepped dinner, which was Red Curry with Grass Fed Brisket by Nom Nom Paleo. I used red curry because we like spice, but I should start stocking up on the yellow curry as well.

When it was about 11, I was able to finally warm up some leftover slow cooker chicken and carrots to munch on. It wasn’t much, so I was supper hungry, and snacked a lot. I ate mangoes, hard boiled eggs, and some procscuitto.

My order of Seasnax arrived just in time as well, and I had two packets. They are yummy! I’ve tasted the onion and original flavor. I love that it doesn’t have any soybean oil in it. Can I bring these to the sushi restaurants and ask them to use these wraps instead?!?!? Wishful thinking huh?!

Once we got the kids to bed, hubby dug into the curry beef stew. He said it was DELICIOUS and had about 4 bowls. Not full bowls though. If you know my husband, he doesn’t pack on a full plate at once, unlike yours truly. He just gets enough to eat, then go back for more. He says it’s fine dining…maybe that’s why he never gains any weight.

Here’s the pics of my eats…

Whole30 – Day 3(08/03/11)

4 Aug

I made it to Day 3 without a cheat. I was very close to caving in and going to get a cookie or something. I was out and about all day, and my dad had lil’ munchkin’ for half the day, so it there wasn’t too much juggling around, until the afternoon/evening. Still very tiring!

Anyways, we started off the day taking lil’ AMRAP to his two week appointment. Everything is all fine and dandy! Unfortunately, I was not able to eat breakfast. I just grabbed some proscuitto and stuffed it in my mouth as we were racing out the door. When I got back from the appointment, I quickly warmed up 1 duck leg and some veggies for my late breakfast.

I didn’t eat lunch until 2, and I picked up a “double-meat” protein style burger at IN-N-OUT. That was delish. Too bad I couldn’t get any cheese. I scarfed that burger down within 5 minutes. Yes, I know I need to chew my food, but I was famished!!! And I had to take care of lil’ munchkin’ who was dying for attention. I also munched on mangoes and pineapple.

I had a snack around 4, which was a leftover duck leg from Day1 and some avocado. Lil’ munchkin’ couldn’t get enough of it. I didn’t cook dinner either, because we had leftovers from the night before. Lots and lots of chicken! I had a small bowl of chicken and carrots, and I forgot to take a picture of it.

Day 3 in the bag. Not sure if I’m going to make it. All this chaos makes me want to relax with a cup of ice cream in my hand. And I miss my coffee with heavy cream!!!

Whole30 Day2- 08/02/11

3 Aug

Yes, day 2 is in the books. Maybe a lil’ too much fruit, but not that bad. I just miss my caramel machiattos, chocolate chip cookies, and most of all I miss my ICE CREAM!

No workout today either. I’m not sure how I’m going to ease myself back into crossfit, or how I’ll find the time to join the five tribe again. Hubs can’t really handle two kids in the wee hours of the morning right now, so I’m just going to have to play it by ear. I think I might do a WOD next week though, just to test the waters. I honestly cant wait to get rid of the tummy flab!!!!

Ok, enough about body image and onto my Whole30 eats. Whole30 is all I have right now to get my body on track, so I Should really watch the portions, especially the fruit portions. Nutrition is the most important thing when trying to lose weight.

Going clockwise, for breakfast I had some veggie soup. I just ate the veggies and meat, did nit drink the soup. I then ate lunch, which was leftover duck confute from the night before with 1/4 of an avocado and more veggie soup. I had a cup of iced Vietnamese coffee with coconut milk. That helped my craving for coffee and kept me awake to get through the day. I snacked on some watermelon and mangoes, and by that time I knew I needed to stop and eat some protein and fat instead. So, I warmed up another duck leg and had it with more avocado. I had to share my snack with lil’ munchkin’. He loves avocado and apparently likes duck…WOOHOO!

Finally we got to dinner and I had Nom Nom Paleo’s easy slow cooker chicken dish. I had the chicken with carrots and onions. I should of made more veggies, but I was pooped and lazy.

Second day is done. Not that bad, but when I step out of the house, it’s hard not to go somewhere with snacks. That’s what I get for taking such a long break from work. imagine if I was a stay home mom, I don’t think I would have any control!

Whole30 – Day 1 (08/01/11)

2 Aug

It’s the first of the month. Time to RESET and mentally get out of this carb infested life I’ve been digging myself into for the past month. I spent the whole weekend re-reading my Whole30 Success Guide, reminding myself of things I can and cannot eat while doing Whole30. Whole9 has a Whole30 Version4.0 out, and they’ve added a few things.

  • Vinegar is allowed, even rice vinegar
  • Weight yourself, before and after
  • No smoking…this one is a no brainer
  • I’m glad vinegar is allowed, because I was eating it with the spaghetti sauce that we buy from Trader Joe’s. :-) I haven’t weighed myself, but I plan to tomorrow morning. I know I should not have done it during Whole30, but oh well.

I am still contemplated delaying the Whole30 till Sunday(08/07) because there are two BBQs on Saturday that I’ll be attending where there won’t be any Whole30 foods available, unless I bring my own. It’ll be my first social outing too. I don’t know if I should or not, but if I do decide to diverge a bit on Saturday, I will restart on Sunday. I mean, there will be protein and veggies there, but it’ll also be marinated in lots of soy, sugar, etc.

Alrighty, onto my good Whole30 clean eats. In the picture below, I had spaghetti meat sauce with a side of veggie soup. I didn’t eat the soup because my mom said she used “Chicken Broth”, but I don’t know what was in the chicken broth. Probably some preservatives. For lunch, I had leftover top sirloin with avocado, roasted sweet potato, and another side of veggie soup. Finally for dinner, I fried up some easy duck confiett from Costco, and had it with Rau Muong AKA ipomoea aquatica. It was sauteed in garlic, coconut aminos, coconut vinegar, and some fish sauce. Yummy!

I did snack on watermelon twice within the day. Also, after my 7pm nap, when I woke up at 11:30, I had one more duck leg. I was hungry, and I guess dinner wasn’t big enough for me. The only activity that I really had was walk around the neighborhood for 40 minutes with the lil’ kiddies.

WOW, I actually survived a day without sugar and grains. It’s been awhile, and it feels great. :-)

Our lil’ watermelon a.k.a “AMRAP” has arrived!

    1 Aug

Our little watermelon AKA lil’ AMRAP, has arrived! He was born on July 20 at 9:30PM weighing in at 7lbs and 4oz. Can you believe lil’ AMRAP was overdue! We were reaching 41 weeks, until Wednesday when I started to feel contractions at 7:30 in the morning. At first, I wasn’t really sure if it was contractions, because it just felt like he was sitting really low and putting pressure on my bladder. But then the pressure went away and I thought it was nothing. Until 10 or 15 minutes later, it came back. Uuuh oooh, here we go!

I actually went to go visit my Grandma at 9:30AM, and wanted to run some errands thinking I could just work through the pain for a bit. But the contractions started to come more often and hurt more, so I knew I had to bring lil’ munchkin’ to my Dad’s house, and call hubby. Hubby was actually sitting in the dentist chair getting his teeth fixed. He got out of there as fast as he could, while I was at home trying to think of all the things we needed to bring. I actually was trying to clean the house real quick make sure our sink wasn’t full of dirty dishes and throw out any leftovers we had in the refrigerator. Yes, I’m weird like that. Oooh and I had to make sure we had all “i” items with us. You know…iPhone, iPad, iCharger…etc.

We got to the hospital at 11:30, and it was sort of a painful ride. I was feeling contractions every 5 minutes, and I had to take deep breathes to get through them. I wanted to stop by In-n-Out to get something to eat. I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat anything once I got the epidural, but hubby said we should just go to the hospital.

Once I was admitted, and the doc came by to check on me, I was 5cm dilated! The doc broke my water to speed things along, and I got my EPI pretty fast. I LOVE THE EPI! Much props to all ladies who don’t get the epidural, because that is some pain that you have to go through. A much much harder WOD!! I started to push at 3:30, but the nurse said the baby was in the occiput posterior position (OP or sunny side up). They wanted me to just wait it out, and see if we could get the baby to turn. I had to lay on one side for 20 minutes in the “Texas Roadhouse” position. Then I would switch to the other side for another 20 minutes, and so on. We didn’t try to push again until 8:30, and AMRAP was still OP.

I honestly believe that Crossfit got me through pushing because the way I had to push was similar to the substitution movement I had to do for an ab-mat sit up! The sub movement was for me to sit on the corner of the box with my legs near my chest, for the starting position. Then I would push out my legs and my upper body, and then bring it back together. Not the best description. The nurse said “Curl over your baby” and push for 10 seconds. If you’ve ever been in the delivery room, you know how my legs were positioned, and how you have to use your core. Anyways, I pushed for an hour, and our lil’ AMRAP came out at 9:30PM, weighing in at 7lb 4oz.

Lil’ AMRAP was 2 pounds heavier than lil’ munchkin’. CRAZY. Who knew my body could handle THAT! LOL. The delivery doc said she was very doubtly that I would be able to have a normal delivery, and was very surprised that I was able to push him out. I’m just happy lil’ AMRAP is healthy, and my recovery is going way better than the first time around.

It’s been almost two weeks since lil’ AMRAP arrived, and I’m sort of ready to start working out again. We’ll see though, I think I’ll do some light stuff at home, maybe run a mile and see how it goes. I’ve been binging on junk these past two weeks, so I’m ready for Whole30 as well. I really have to focus now on losing the weight, maybe even losing some muscle at first. Then I can focus on performance and strength. I’m not sure how I’m going to juggle this all, but I have to.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. You know I’ve been hiding, trying to juggle multiple things at once, and I haven’t had the best eating habits. That is all going to change August 1st when I do the big reset. Till then, hope everyone enjoyed the Crossfit Games and got inspired by the athletes determination and heart!
