Wow! It’s that time of year to reflect and set goals for the new year. I normally don’t do this in a public setting, so I think it’s time for me to change my ways, and maybe open up more. What got me thinking about this idea was when Tim wanted us to take a break on Wednesday and get coffee instead of workout. Henry and I were definitely up for it(but inside I really wanted to get another OHS PR). We sat at Starbucks at 5:30 AM, and Tim was telling us all about how he wants to build CFPA as a brand, and how he thinks social media is the way to do it(not the only way, but definitely a big part of it). It’s all about how we connect to one another as a community through blogs, social websites such as Facebook, Myspace, or Friendster. And what I learned was, you don’t have to use the “social” websites to just socialize with friends and catch up on the recent gossip. You can learn a lot about your interests and hobbies from this type of media, probably more than watching TV or reading a newspaper. An article that you are interested in can be shared through the web faster than watching the news and hearing about it. Times have definitely changed, and I think this past year, I’ve used social media to learn more about nutrition and working out than anything else. “Like”-ing a Crossfit page or a nutrition page has lead me to many articles about health and fitness and gave me tons of information to experiment with. For one, who would of ever thought of “over-training”. If I like to workout 6 days a week, who cares. It’ll keep me thin right? NOPE! The body definitely needs to recover, and constantly tearing down the muscles will not help me build muscle. Therefore, if I’m not building muscle, I’m not burning fat. Oh, what a concept!
And what about using forums to get information from people who are going through the same issues you are going through. The babywise forum that I use has supported and helped Tran and I deal with issues that Mason has been going through. They are all normal baby issues, but we are first time parents, and we don’t know how to deal with things sometimes. Talking to people who are going through the same thing you are going through and giving good advice helps a lot! Without these forums, what would we really do? Of course there are books out there for me to read, but honestly I’ve never been a “reader”, and I think I get the information faster when searching the forums, or asking the question myself and getting an answer from someone 10 minutes later. FORUMS are awesome, and they are such a great support group.
So, for 2011, I hope to spread valuable information to others. If not in my own words, then through other people’s thoughts and ideas. Not only will this blog be about my fitness and nutrition goals, but it’ll be about my pregnancy, being a mom, and being a wife. Time to open up my shell a bit, and see where it gets me. Goodbye 2010, it’s been an adventurous ride. Hello to 2011!!!
Have a happy new year, and be safe wherever you are celebrating!!!
