01/07/2013 – Whole30 Day 7

I took 3 days off from working out and I feel so refreshed!  I went to CFPA today and it felt great to get moving again, and I feel really motivated to train hard and reach my goals.

Here’s what we did.

Strength: Hang Power Cleans

Every 3 minutes do 5 reps: 53#-63#-73#-78#-83#

I wasn’t trying to go super heavy because I wanted to make sure form was on point.  


7 Rounds For Time

7 Thrusters(75#/55#)


7 Burpees

WOWZA!  In my head I thought 7 thrusters at 55#…easy!  I also thought this WOD was going to be fast.  It happens every time with CrossFit.  When you think a WOD is easy, better think again.  I went unbroken with the thrusters.  The bar definitely felt light going over head, but I was getting tired, so I didn’t string the SDHP together. Burpees were burpees. Painful. I now know that I have to just keep moving and get them done.

After CrossFit I usually lift and today was Back Squats. Did 5×5 but failed on the last set to get the full 5 reps at 140#. Did some dumbbell lunges to work on grip strength and plank holds.

I have a whole schedule planned out to work on weaknesses for the Courage Games. Yes, I signed up for a competition and now I’m nervous and excited. Tim gave us great suggestions on what we needed to do, so I’m trying to incorporate skills on off days while getting some rowing and running in. I’ll continue to lift after CrossFit sticking to Back Squat, Deadlifts, Bench, and Press. I do have to focus a bit more time in working the gymnastic skills, especially HSPUs. I’ll be lucky if I can complete 10 HSPUs by the end of the month. All in the name of FUN! Can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store. I’m definitely have tons of new energy right now. I want to keep it consistent though, and not tire myself out come spring time.

Goodbye 2012…Hello 2013!

Yes, I’ve disappeared for a few months.  I wanted to disconnect a bit because I was spending too much time on social media and not focusing more of my time on more important things.  For example, blogging took my time away from focusing on work and trying to better my career.

Nothing has changed much in my life.  I’m still super busy with the kids, busy at work, still lovin” CrossFit, still eating clean(except for December), and still trying to reach my fitness goals.  I’m gaining strength and enjoying my workouts.  I don’t really run much anymore, but lately I’ve been missing it.  Physique wise, I’m not completely there yet, but I will be.  I’m hoping I won’t need to focus on it so much, and just put all my energy towards my strength goals.  Then the physique part will come with it.  I HAVE TO STAY CONSISTENT and STICK WITH THE PLAN.  I can’t let temptation get the best of me.  And yes, I’m talking about food. I love eating clean because it makes my body feel good, and I feel horrible when I don’t eat clean. Staying focused and in control is the only way I’ll succeed.

I’ve learned so much in 2012 in regards to nutrition and fitness, especially since I worked with a couple nutrition coaches.  Everyone’s body is so different, and honestly, you just gotta find what works for you.  Lots of experiments and patience.  Patience is key, and I’m hoping patience will also get me to where I want to be in 2013.  


05/01/2012 – Good Eats

It’s the 1st of the Month! New month, new beginnings. Definitely a good time to start new eating habits. My gym, CrossFit Palo Alto, is starting a “WholeMay” AKA Whole30. I’m not participating this time, but I think the program is great and encourage everyone to do it! You’ll learn so much about the food industry and you’ll learn how to fuel your body with real food!

Before I broke my fast, I went for a quick 2 mile run. I almost decided not to, but I got my butt out and enjoyed the sun.

11:30AM(B) – I scarfed down my 2 whole eggs, 3 egg white omelet with a 4oz mushroom burger.

I had a large salad with my burger. A little while later, I scarfed down a can of sardines from Wild Planet. It’s funny because I just read a post on Mark’s Daily Apple about BPA free foods, and Wild Planet was one listed as safe.

I was still hungry around 1 and found some Chicken Jerky in my drawers. I’m glad I had a pack available, because I was getting antsy.

I didn’t really have to do any cooking when I got home. I just warmed up leftovers for all of us to eat. My plate consisted of salmon, sauerkraut, and roasted broccoli.

I couldn’t help myself and had some dried cranberries. I asked hubby to hid it from me unless I need to put it in my chicken salad. No more snacking on stuff that is not in the plan.

Hope everyone was successful today with their Whole30. I promise it’ll get easier. 🙂

04/30/2012 – Good Eats

Crazy busy day at work today. I literally sat at my desk for over 9 hours working on a document that had to get out by COB today. It helps that I am fasting, so I can just stay focused on my work instead of eating every 2 or 3 hours. Here’s what I chowed down on for high carb/training day…

11:30AM(B) – 6 egg white spinach omelet with sweet potato fries and chestnuts.

Around 3PM I was able to wrap my little snacks and scarf them down. I’m really liking these Coconut Pure Wraps. Too bad it’s pricey, but it’s good quality stuff, and Whole30 approved.

Top: Cranberry Chicken Salad, Bottom: Applegate Chicken Breast w/ Avocado

Applegate Farms deli meats are the only Whole30 approved deli meat that I have found a the grocery stores. Here’s a dollar off coupon for you.

For dinner, I baked a 6oz Tilapia Fillet and roasted some brussel sprouts and kabocha squash. Yummy.

Unfortunately, I munched on a couple handful of dried cranberries from CJ Olsen Cherries. They have cranberries that they infuse with apple juice, not the normal cane sugar that you find everywhere else. Kind of addicting, and very dense in calories. Bad, but oh so good!

01/04/2012 – Good Eats

Before I ramble on about what I ate today, let me tell everyone that Whole9 will be coming to CFPA in April. This nutrition seminar is a MUST and Whole9 will change your life. Everyone will come out of the seminar with a better understanding about carbs, protein, and fat, and how it affects your body. Why do you have these energy dips after lunch? How do you regulate energy? What kind of foods should you eat to fuel your body to get through a grueling work day or a grueling workout? Do you have diabetes? If so, you will learn what to eat to can control your insulin spikes! All these questions will be answered, and it doesn’t get too science-y either. Trust me, this seminar was life changing for me! I don’t normally push things on people, because I don’t like being too preachy. I just want you to hear it from Melissa and Dallas, the experts. 😉

Alrighty, back to the task at hand…

Wow, I had back spasms all day from the WOD this morning! It happened in meetings too, so it was a little awkward when I was talking and all of a sudden stopped because the spasm just hit me. Once I got home from work, I rolled out immediately. It’s helped a bit, and now I’m just sore.

Here’s how I fueled my first FULL day at work.

7:30 – Iced Mocha Tesora with Heavy Cream, no extra sugar. The mocha tesora contains cocoa powder, so I asked them to only put a little bit in there. I end just drinking half of it. Something is definitely wrong with my tummy when I drink this. Maybe their cocoa is too much for me. 😦

8:45 – Leftover Sous Vide Porterhouse Chops with sauteed chinese bok choy. The bok choy was sauteed using avocado oil, some fish sauce, and S&P. Most of the chops were full of fat! So I ended up eating half the portion.

12:30 – While driving back to work I munched on dried cranberries infused with apple juice. Mindless eating, but I was hungry!

1:30 – Picked up a salad from Chipotle. Carnitas with hot sauce, salsa, and a side of guacamole. Extra protein please!!!

8:15 – I quickly wrapped some shrimp in bacon and sauteed shredded cabbage in the bacon fat. Here’s my dinner which also included cauliflower fried rice.

I guess today wasn’t too bad except for the Cocoa powder in my coffee, which is actually Whole30 approved since it’s unsweetened. The dried cranberries weren’t a good choice either. Should of had an apple or something. So weird how my palette has changed between winter and summer fruits. I was all about the fruits during the summer, and now I don’t even crave it. Very interesting…

01/02/2012 – Happy New Year

Happy New Year bloggers! If you happen to see “2011” in the subject line, it’s probably me getting adjusted to typing “2012”. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and ready to kick butt in 2012. 2012 is already kicking my butt because I have a really bad cold. Because of the cold, I missed the first workout today at CFPA. I definitely did not start the year off right, but I must get myself healthy to work on my goals!

I’ve been lurking online a lot reading different Paleo websites and everyone is so jazzed about cleaning up their diet that I’m a little envious! I really wish I could participate in a Whole30 with all the newbies, but the reality is that it won’t work for me this month. Ya ya I know, there might never be a time where I can avoid social gatherings while doing Whole30, but I’m going on vacation next week, so why stress myself out while on vacation and pretty much ruin everyone’s vacation. I’m going to try to stay away from grains, because I know it’s possible, but I will have a drink here and there and indulge in some Hawaiian cookies towards the end of my trip.

But after my vacation, I am going to be ready mentally and physically to whip this skinny fat body into shape. I’ve been looking for a Nutrition Coach and found 2 already. We’ll see how it goes, and I’ll give more details once everything has been finalized. So exciting!

I didn’t eat much today and skipped dinner because this cold is kicking my behind!! I’m going to start tracking my meals again once I feel a little bit better and remember to take pictures of my good eats.

10/25/2011 – Good Eats

Woke up at 4AM and got to Starbucks at 5AM. I had to get in early because I have a lot of work to do, and I’ve been slacking! I got a Grande Cappuccino with 2 pumps of vanilla. Yea Yea Yea…it’s bad. So much for trying to be Whole30 approved today.

Breakfast: 2 fried eggs seasoned with Sunny Paris Seasoning, a small roasted sweet potato, and Cauliflower and Carrot Puree.

Lunch: I had 2 pieces of the Hardcore Albacore and roasted brussel sprouts.

Dinner: Duck Confit with Sauteed Red Cabbage and Kraut. Kraut is so good! I know I went overboard with the cabbage tonight, but at least I got my veggies in. Yummy to my tummy!!

I knocked out probably an hour after I ate dinner. Is that bad?
